The Hopeful Xuesheng Method was born out of one hapless student's difficult experience while attending the prestigious Defense Language Institute's (DLI) Chinese Mandarin Program*.

DLI, known for its extreme difficulty, has a sink or swim approach. Students go from knowing nothing to being fluent linguistic scholars in a matter of months. Luckily, they have help from some of the world's greatest linguistic researchers who develop study methodologies that help students survive the grueling pace.

This experience, combined with personal experimentation, trial and error, serve as the basis for the creation of The Hopeful Xuesheng Method.

The Method

The Hopeful Xuesheng Method is designed to maximize efficiency and speed, while also leaving openings for deeper exploration. Think of it as a personal guide up a mountain trail, with rest stops and side trails to explore if you wish.

The method is divided into four stages going from basic pronunciation all the way through consuming native materiel and beyond. Extra care is taken to ensure daily practice won't consume too much of your time, and each step along the way is precisely planned out so you are never guessing where to go to reach that next level.
